The People Resources and Conservation Foundation (PRCF) is seeking to recruit a Field Site Technical Officer for our Cao Vit Gibbon forest habitat restoration program in Cao Bang Province.
National Project Field Officer for the Cao Vit Gibbon Conservation Area, Cao Bang Province, to assist in the implementation of the People Resources and Conservation Foundation (PRCF)’s biological diversity conservation and community development programs.
The PRCF is a non-government, non-profit, and non-membership organization established in 1995. The PRCF endeavours to support biodiversity conservation programs that target particular species or habitats, and community-based programs that target rural people in developing countries, particularly communities living adjacent to protected areas, remnant forests, and degraded lands.
The incumbent will work closely with the Non-Government Organisations, Protected Area Management Boards, Forest Protection Department, local government and international trans-boundary partners to coordinate and implement project activities. Project activities include targeted forest habitat restoration interventions for the Critically Endangered Cao Vit gibbon and community–based conservation and natural resource management.
The position will be based at the PRCF Office in either Trung Khanh Town, Cao Bang Province (close to the Cao Vit Gibbon Conservation Area) or the Hanoi Office with frequent travel to the Trung Khanh Office (subject to negotiation).
Commencement Date: Immediate October 2011
Duration: One year with strong expectation for extension based upon performance and funding availability.
Requirements
· University education in forest ecology, forestry, conservation, wildlife or environmental management.
· Two years experience in implementation of field based conservation/natural resource or natural forest management projects.
· Basic field experience/skills in botanical inventory, nursery skills, seed collection, tree planting etc.
· Ability to work in multi-disciplinary technical teams and inter-organisation partnerships.
· Self-motivated and confident to work independently in remote mountainous areas.
· Experience working with Forest Protection Department staff and Commune authorities.
· Good organizational skills.
· Fluent written and spoken Vietnamese.
· Good written and spoken English language.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The position requires the incumbent to undertake regular overnight trips to the forest with occasional camping and therefore, at locations with minimal facilities. A medium to high level of physical fitness is also required.
