American Red Cross is a non-profit, volunteer-led, humanitarian organization working to provide high impact emergency relief and long term sustainable development projects for the world’s most vulnerable people. In Vietnam, we cooperate closely with our implementing partner, the Vietnam Red Cross on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) program and related projects including early warning systems, community-based first responder training and school-based disaster preparedness. We are now looking for candidate to fill the following position to support project implementation in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Ha Tinh Provinces.
Title: Program Officer
Location: Hanoi, with frequent travel to Central Provinces of Vietnam (more than 60%)
Contract duration: 1 year with possible extension
Reports to: Senior Program Officer
Expected start date: 1st July 2011
Primary Duties:
– Support the implementation of ARC DRR expanded program for Ketsana-affected areas under the supervision of the Senior Program Officer
– Assist ARC Senior Program Officer and VNRC local chapters as needed with monitoring and reporting
– Track and meet activity deadlines according to the workplan
– Coordinate closely with VNRC and other Red Cross Movement partners, as well as relevant humanitarian actors as they pertain to the program
Key Qualifications:
– University graduate
– Highly Proficient English and Vietnamese
– Prior humanitarian experience with disaster response and preparedness preferred
– Familiarity with targeted Provinces a plus
– Commitment to the Red Cross mandate, principles and Movement,
– Ability to work both independently and as a team member
– Strong communication, organizational and reporting skills
– Able to meet deadlines, working long hours and during weekends as required
– Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Project and other basic applications)
