Vietnam Country Office in Hanoi is seeking a motivated high calibre
professional for the position of Senior Forest Policy Advisor (SFPA) who will
advise and support all IUCN’s forestry activities.
The SFPA will advise and support staff in the design and implementation of
processes and products aimed at convincing decision-makers in government,
business, and civil society of the need to implement policy reforms that will
improve forest resource management in Vietnam for both pro-poor and
environmental benefits. The SFPA will work closely with government to ensure
that IUCN’s work is understood and appreciated and inline with government
priorities. The SFPA will coordinate and lead advocacy activities to reach and
convince decision-makers of the benefits of policy reform and improved
implementation.
Specific duties includes:
STRATEGIC GUIDANCE & REVIEW
. Provide strategic guidance on the development of forestry projects and
activities to achieve specific policy reforms.
. Liaise with government to ensure projects and activities are inline with
government priorities and respond to their concerns.
. Review reports and other documents as required and provide feedback on project
design and implementation.
REPRESENTATION & COMMUNICATIONS
. Represent IUCN in discussions on forestry projects and activities to
government, partners, and donors.
. Give presentations and other forms of formal and informal communication to key
decision-makers to convince them of the benefits of policy reform.
. Advise on the development and delivery of communications and outreach products
and processes needed to promote forest sector policy reform.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The SFPA should be a Vietnamese national. Candidates for this position should
have long experience in forest law, policy or economics. S/he should
demonstrate excellent technical, facilitation and advocating skills at a high
level. The successful candidate will demonstrate a broad knowledge of the
relevant policy issues and the ability to identify and build consensus on
stakeholder interests at multiple levels. Good command of English with good
writing and presenting skills.
The initial contract will be for a period of one year renewable.
