BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY
The UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) Vietnam is part of the British Embassy in Hanoi. DFID has an annual development programme in Vietnam of £50 million working closely with Government of Vietnam and other Development partners to eradicate poverty.
The successful candidate will be a key member of a small but dedicated team (currently 6 expatriate staff and 18 locally engaged) who are responsible for implementing the UK Government’s Development Programme to Vietnam.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate needs to have:
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Vietnam on climate change, natural resources or environmental management
• Policy and coordination experience.
• Fluency in Vietnamese and English (essential)
• Familiarity with GoV institutional landscapes and policy processes.
• MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (Full TORs are available on request)
• Represent DFID Vietnam and promote DFID’s corporate priorities in policy and coordination discussions with GoV, donors and civil society concerning climate change
• Develop good working relationships with climate change focal points in key Vietnamese ministries and donor agencies.
• Provide technical and advisory support to DFID Vietnam and GoV on climate change policy development, adaptation financing and global carbon funds

Applicants must apply using the approved DFID application form to demonstrate how they meet the selection criteria. The closing date for applications is 16.00 on Thursday 9 April. Short-listed candidates (around 12) will be called to attend a written test which will be organised in the week beginning 20 April.
Following the written test, the final applicants (around 6) will be invited to a recruitment workshop which will be organised during the week commencing 4 May. You will need to be available for the whole day.

Following the written test, the final applicants (around 6) will be invited to a recruitment workshop which will be organised during the week commencing 4 May. You will need to be available for the whole day.
The recruitment workshop consists of a group discussion and an interview. At the interview you will be asked to make a short presentation to the Board on a topic which you will have been given in advance.
The process will be designed to test candidates performance against core DFID Generic Competencies. Please see Annex A for the list of core DFID Generic Competencies.
The post is available now so the successful candidate will be able to start as soon as security clearance procedures are completed, qualifications are verified, and satisfactory references are received.
BENEFIT PACKAGE
DFID offers a competitive package with a current salary range of US$3,629 to US$4,927 gross per month, plus health benefits. New appointees are expected to be placed at the start of the salary range and progress on an annual basis.
A comprehensive induction process, familiarization and training support will be offered as we believe in continual professional development for all our staff.
This will be a two year fixed term contract subject to a satisfactory 2 month probation period. Three might be a possibility of contract extension.
DFIDV work 36 hours over a 5 days working week. Flexible working patterns can be considered if business needs are met. There is an annual leave entitlement of 25 days per year plus 14 Public Holidays.
