JOB OPPORTUNITY
TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild plants and animals is not a threat to the conservation of nature. TRAFFIC, a joint programme of WWF and IUCN – The World Conservation Union, monitors wildlife trade at international, regional and national levels – researching both domestic and international chains of supply and demand to identify interventions aimed at increasing the efficiency of wildlife management.
TRAFFIC Southeast Asia – Greater Mekong Programme in collaboration with WWF Greater Mekong are moving into the second phase of the DANIDA funded project “A Matter of Attitude – Reducing the Consumption of Wildlife Products in Ha Noi”. As with Phase I of this project the overarching goal is to reduce the consumption of endangered and protected wildlife by undertaking awareness raising and education activities aimed at changing the behaviour of people who consume wildlife in an illegal and unsustainable manner. To help implement this important project, TRAFFIC is looking for a competent Vietnamese National to fill the position below:
PROJECT MANAGER
Key Responsibilities:
– Manage the day-to-day implementation of project activities;
– Supervise TRAFFIC staff members working on the project;
– Coordinate TRAFFIC?s activities in close collaboration with WWF and all other project partners;
– Help build strong linkages and with key government counterparts and develop strong working relationships with the mass media;
– Provide technical input and guidance in developing appropriate communication messages and strategies;
– Assist in identifying, recruiting and managing suitably qualified and experienced consultants to undertake specific project activities;
– Manage and monitor the disbursement of funds ensuring that expenditures are transparent and within the allocated budget;
– Coordinate the development of a monitoring and evaluation framework for the project;
– Organise workshops and meetings and provide keynote presentations as required;
– Provide training to project partners and government counterparts on conservation and wildlife trade related issues;
– Prepare periodical technical reports;
– Liaise with donor to ensure that they are kept informed of progress and are provided with the opportunity to engage and comment on project activities.
Requirements:
– Masters degree in environmental studies/ education, natural resource management, environmental communication or related fields;
– Demonstrated project management skills;
– Sound knowledge of government organizations;
– Experience in education, communication, advocacy and social mobilization;
– Sound understanding of nature conservation issues;
– Critical thinking and aspiration for high quality deliverables;
– Excellent negotiation and communication skills;
– Experience working with high ranking government decision makers;
– Excellent command of English and Vietnamese languages;
– Minimum 5 years experience working in a similar position or communication field;
– Experience working with an international organization is desirable; and
– Creative, flexible and able to work under pressure;
