Greetings from Chiang Mai, Thailand. I am writing to inform you that EarthRights International’s Mekong School is now accepting applications for its 2008 session. The Mekong School provides intensive training for students from the six Mekong basin countries- Yunnan Province/China, Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam who work on environmental and human rights issues.
The seven month training program will focus on the impacts of large-scale development projects, water issues, and international financial institutions (IFIs). The course includes workshops on environmental and human rights law, research methodology, and international advocacy, along with a two month field project. The program will provide students with the skills, knowledge and experience to voice their individual and collective concerns about IFI-funded development projects and related human rights, transparency and participation issues within the Mekong basin. We have no formal educational requriements, but require a basic knowledge of English and a committement to working on environmental issues in the Mekong region.
